Is this the same Steve’s from Boston?
The original Steve’s Ice Cream was started by Steve Herrell in 1973 in Somerville, Massachusetts. This Steve’s revolutionized American ice cream by custom-blending flavors by hand as customers watched, and mixing-in candies, cookies, fruits and nuts in utterly original and personalized combinations. Our founder, David Stein, then a 20-something philosophy student in nearby Cambridge, learned to do expert Mix-Ins and how to make Steve’s ice cream by hand in the original store. Ever since, he’s dreamed of recreating the excitement that was unique to Steve’s – the lines around the block, the wild flavor creations and the sheer joy of ice cream Steve’s inspired. Now he’s living that dream by bringing Steve’s back to start the next ice cream revolution.

What dairy do you use in your ice cream?
Our milk and cream comes from Hudson Valley Fresh, a dairy cooperative in upstate New York that is 100% farmer owned. Hudson Valley Fresh never ultra-pasteurizes their dairy and never uses artificial growth hormones (rBST/rBGH) either. Hudson Valley Fresh cows are happy cows and they are fed a varied diet of healthy grains and hay. The resulting dairy is of the highest quality- winning the National Dairy Quality Award and NYS Environmental Stewardship Award. All the dairy we use is also certified kosher.
Why do you make dairy free ice cream?
We’ve noticed that many of our customers are seeking non-dairy alternatives and with 1 out of 10 people being lactose intolerant, it’s only fair to give them some options! Not to mention, a lot of customers are trying to steer clear of animal products, have food allergies, or just want to try something new! Our chef is a firm believer that there are a number of flavors that are well suited for our craft coconut crème. He has crafted dairy free flavors that are every bit as decadent as traditional ice cream!
What is a coconut based ice cream?
Coconut based refers to the fact that we use coconut cream instead of traditional cream as the main ingredient (base) of an ice cream. Steve’s Craft Coconut Crème is made with 100% vegan ingredients.
Is coconut healthy?
Steve’s Craft Coconut Crème is more than just a vegan non-dairy alternative - it’s the health conscious consumer’s answer to ice cream. Coconut used to have a bad rap for being high in saturated fat, but now it is emerging as a nutritious food with unique health benefits. Who comes up with your ice cream flavors?
It’s a fun job to work at Steve’s! Our small team sits around the table and brainstorms flavors for hours. We get inspiration from cookbooks, restaurants, bars, family dinners, and our customers! And then we work with a chef who helps us turn each flavor idea into perfection.
